There are numerous bands here on the Archive that do proper mixing at the board to create a good feed, and those are usually first rate

For those interested, a good example of this is the March 2001 Warfield recordings of the String Cheese Incident.

Here's the lineage for 3/10/2001:

DSBD Matrix: [SBD > Apogee Rosetta 24-bit A/D] + [Schoeps CMXY-4V > Lunatec V2] > Yamaha O1V (via 16-bit AES @ 44.1) > Tascam DA-P1

This includes a mix of Soundboard (SBD) plus microphones (Schoeps CMXY-4V) specificially mixed ideally for recording on a separate console (Yamaha 01V). It sounds very, very nice. :-)
